After stopping the Steelers on 4th-and-1 at the Washington 28-yard line, Alex Smith and the offense had the chance to atone for earlier mistakes and score a huge upset over the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.
But the Washington Football Team’s drive for the win had stalled short of midfield and they were facing a 3rd-and-4.
Failure to convert and the Steelers offense would be right back in position to send Washington home with nothing. But then Cam Sims had other ideas.
Facing a blitz, Smith looked right and flung it deep to Sims streaking down the right sideline and he made a sensational one-handed catch for a gain of 29 yards.
Are you kidding, Cam Sims?
The catch set up Washington on the Steelers’ 27-yard line.
Again: One. Handed. Catch. And look at the view from the field.
Sims finished with 92 yards on five catches and Smith threw for 296 yards and a touchdown.
The catch set up Dustin Hopkins to nail a 45-yard field goal to give Washington its first lead of the game and put them ahead for good.
Washington would finish the game on a 23-3 run after going down 14-0 for a 23-17 win.
