Ron Rivera is getting a lot more chances to give postgame victory speeches this year.
After his Washington Football Team’s 23-17 comeback win over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, Rivera was able to again speak to a victorious locker room for the third-straight week.
“Underdogs win,” Rivera began in a video the team put on Twitter.
“That was a helluva job. And make sure everyone understands this more so than anything else: This is not who you guys are,” Rivera said pointing his finger around the room. “We talked about going out today and playing to our ability and being the best team today. Had nothing to do with records, had nothing to do with who you are, only on the football field. And that’s what you did. You guys put it out there and you played your asses off.”
“You guys did some really good things in terms of showing who we can be as a football team. We take ‘em one at a time. We take ‘em one at a time. And we’ll show up and play, I promise you that much,” he continued.
“It was a helluva an effort, you guys deserved it. You deserved the victory because you win.”
After Rivera handed a game ball to wide reciever Cam Sims, who made a crucual one-handed catch late in the 4th quarter, he closed by saying, “Just so everybody knows, everyone’s gonna get a game ball for this victory. This is a special victory. Y’all earned it, y’all deserved it.”
With the win, Washington Football improved to 5-7 to stay even with the New York Giants in the NFC East race and in the hunt for the playoffs.
