Clemson's defense forced four Gamecock turnovers in their 28-14 win in Columbia, Saturday. Clemson was also plus three in the turnover margin on the day.
Neither offense could get going in the opening 15 minutes. Both teams punted twice each in the first. SC then later fumbled on an offensive drive. Clemson recovered the fumble, but was unable to cash in. A pass from Clemson QB Cade Klubnik was picked off in the end zone by Gamecock DB Jalon Kilgore.
After a scoreless 1st quarter, Clemson struck 1st with a 7 play, 78 yard TD drive. The scoring drive was capped off by an Adam Randall 10 yard TD run to make it 7-0, Clemson. The Gamecocks answered with a 53 yard TD run from QB LaNorris Sellers to Nyck Harbor, to tie the game at 7.
The Tigers then put together an 11 play, 85 yard TD drive capped off by a a 3 yard TD run from Klubnik to make it 14-7. South Carolina answered quickly with a 7 yard TD pass from Sellers to Van Jacobs to tie it at 14. Clemson would get a 32 yard Field Goal from Nolan Hauser to make it 17-14 at the half.
Clemson opened the scoring in the 2nd half. The Tigers got a 42 yard FG from Hauser to make it 20-14 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd. Clemson took that lead into the final frame.
In the 4th, both defenses stood tall and neither offense could make headway. Clemson DB Ricardo Jones sealed the win for the Tigers with a 12 yard "pick six" to make it 26-1 with 3:20 left. Clemson converted on a two point try to make it 28-14.
With the win, Clemson closes the regular season at 7-5. South Carolina finishes with a record of 4-8. The road team has now won 6 straight in the Palmetto Bowl Series.
