Newberry Football clinches conference title and playoff bid

Newberry College has played its way into the NCAA DII Playoffs. The Wolves earned at automatic bid after winning the South Atlantic Conference Title. They clinched the conference with a 28-21 home win over Carson-Newman on Saturday.

Newberry trailed 14-7 going into the 4th quarter against Carson-Newman. They scored 21 fourth quarter points to get the come from behind victory. Newberry's Santori Jones picked off a pass in the end zone on the final play to preserve the win.

Close calls are nothing new for Newberry this season. Seven of Newberry's 9 wins this season have come by 7 points or less. The Wolves are 9-1 on the season and went 8-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Newberry's success is bolstered by in-state talent. Lexington Product, RB Jonah Norris scored the go-ahead TD against Carson-Newman, Saturday. Former Brookland-Cayce standout Reed Charpia starts at QB for the Wolves. He threw for over 250 yards and 3 TD's in Saturday's conference clinching title win.

Newberry is off this week and the DII playoffs will start November 22nd. The Selection Show is this Sunday, Nov. 16th. Newberry is expected to host in the 1st round and would likely host in the 2nd round, if they advance.
