Georgia's defense was the story of their 28-7 win over Alabama in the SEC Title Game, Saturday in Atlanta. The Bulldog "D" didn't allow a point in over three quarters of play. That helped Georgia build a 14-0 halftime lead and a 21-0 advantage going into the 4th quarter. Alabama didn't get on the board until 12:33 left in the game to make it 21-7.
The "Dawgs" answered with Gunner Stockton's 3rd TD pass of the game in the final frame. The Rabun County product went 20 of 26 for 156 yards and # TD's. Most importantly he took what was available in the passing game and didn't turn the ball over.
Alabama QB Ty Simpson conversely struggled going 19 of 39 for 212 yards, a TD and an interception. Georgia's defense held Alabama to 209 total yards of offense. The "Dawgs" owned the ground game stifling Bama's run game holding them to -3 yards rushing, while running for 141.
Stockton was named MVP of the SEC Championship Game. Georgia is now 12-1 on the season and is the #3 overall seed in the College Football Playoff. They'll have a bye in the 1st round and will meet the winner of #6 Ole Miss and #11 Tulane in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day in New Orleans.
