Hillcrest High School announced Thursday that it has promoted assistant coach Amos Lamb to serve as the school’s next head football coach.

Lamb, who most recently served as the Rams’ offensive line coach, becomes the 18th head coach in program history. He replaces Bennett Swygert, who compiled a 26-11 record over the past three seasons.

Athletic Director Dale Nelson said the administration believes the promotion provides continuity and stability for a program that has experienced sustained success in recent years.

“We are super excited about promoting Amos Lamb to be our next head coach,” Nelson said. “He is a proven winner, and he was the offensive coordinator here when we won state in ’14. His track record working with athletes is unmatched on the field and in the strength program. We feel like we are making the best move and are very excited to have him leading our program.”

Lamb has deep ties to Hillcrest’s football tradition. He served as offensive coordinator during the Rams’ 2014 state championship season and has been instrumental in player development, particularly in the weight room and along the offensive front.

The Rams’ program has been a model of consistency. Each of the last three head coaches has posted a winning record, including former head coach Greg Porter, who guided Hillcrest to a state championship in 2014. Swygert continued that standard with three straight winning seasons before departing the position for Clover High School.

Hillcrest will open the 2026 season on the road at Dorman on Aug. 21.
