Anywhere you go, there's always something to remind you of another quarterback from another time. So who does Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell most remind people of? After one answer caused a great deal of uproar earlier this week, the search for a better comparison began.

Pro Football Focus data analyst Nick Akridge joined Kevin Sheehan to talk about the proper NFL quarterback comparison for Howell and how he evaluated the job Ron Rivera and company did in the 2023 NFL draft.

"It's definitely not Colt McCoy, that's for sure," Akridge told Sheehan. "The comp I've seen a lot, if you wanna make sense is Baker Mayfield. I mean, they're kinda built the exact same. They have the arm strength – I wouldn't say its top tier Josh Allen arm strength, but they have good enough arm strength. It's a solid trait they have. They're sneaky athletic at times, they're small and stout and can kinda make people miss in the open field. The Colt McCoy comp was not one at all I had for Howell."

The reason it isn't the former Heisman Trophy runner-up at Texas is because of that arm strength separates the North Carolina product.

"McCoy's arm was not great," Akridge said. "And with Howell one of the things that I did know is that he has good arm strength. That's one of his pros that you could really work with, it was good arm strength, good accuracy. And, the big thing with Howell that knocked him was the offense that he played in [at UNC]. There was really, not much, full-field NFL passing concepts that he had to go through. It was a lot of one-read and take off and run, that was mostly because UNC had to ask him to do that, the final year he was forced to run a lot more."

The full segment – which includes information on Howell's running ability during his time in college – can be heard above!
