A large portion of Washington football fans are all-in second-year quarterback Sam Howell. But what are some reasonable expectations for the Commanders' likely Week 1 starting QB for the 2023 NFL season and beyond?

Kevin Sheehan and Denton Day had their take and fans had theirs. And there were even some interesting career comparisons that everyone had that they could see Howell following.

Sheehan said it is unreasonable to assume that Howell can become a franchise quarterback, especially when considering his draft position and the history of quarterbacks taken that late in the draft.

A reasonable expectation for Howell in terms of comparisons to his career (not player, but their career trajectory): Tyrod Taylor and Colt McCoy are reasonable and the best case (is a much bigger guy with a different body type) is Ryan Tannehill.

Denton Day's reasonable best case: "That [the Commanders] are not drafting a quarterback in Round 1 next year."

"Like he's not gonna be good to the point where they're gonna win a championship," Day added, "but he's not gonna be bad to the point where they're drafting high enough to be in contention for Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, so I think they're gonna fill the position out elsewhere. I think he's gonna be good enough where quarterback is not going to be the top priority for them next year."
