Peter King has laid out his power rankings for all 32 NFL teams, which had five categories for the 32 teams…and of course, the Commanders were in the second-to-last category, “Under Construction,” ranked 27th out of 32 teams.
The Junkies don’t necessarily agree, as they discussed on Tuesday morning.
“The only caveat I would say is that this terrible team, which only averaged 17 points per game, still found a way to win right games with hot garbage at QB,” EB said. “Their defense should be better, and their quarterback play should be better. I think they should be middle of the pack – 27 is like a four-win team. Maybe they won a few games they didn’t deserve to, but still.”
“A lot of the teams in that category have unproven quarterbacks,” Bish shot back, “so I can see why they put them in that category with Sam Howell.”
“My biggest takeaway is that none of the national guys believe in the Sam Howell experiment,” Cakes added.
JP understood but had some qualms, especially with the Packers being above the Comanders, considering “they missed the playoffs with Aaron Rodgers last year – they were basically the same as the Commanders last year, and we don’t know what Jordan Love is going to do.”
“Wouldn’t we all basically agree the QB play here was hot garbage and they won eight games?” EB asked. “I think Sam Howell is going to be better, even if the schedule is a little tougher.”

“And what if the defense is even better than they were last year, because Chase Young is the impact player they expected him to be?” JP replied. “We know they’ve improved the back end.”
Of course, as hard as it is for EB to believe, there’s the chance for a “spectacular crash” just like the final years of the Shanahan and Gruden eras, but even down to 6-11 should be higher than 27th, in EB’s mind.
