CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three Chicago police officers were hospitalized for dog bites, after a police spokesperson said two dogs were set loose on the officers while they conducted an investigation on the West Side Sunday.

CPD said it happened shortly before 11:30 a.m., after a woman “attempted to intervene” in the investigation. Police said an unknown person set the dogs loose on police officers.

Authorities said one of the officers shot one of the dogs during.

Chicago Fire Department crews arrived at 4025 W. Adams St., in the city’s Garfield Park neighborhood, shortly after the attack. CFD said three officers were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-but-stable condition. CPD later said the officers were in good condition.

The condition of the dog that was shot is unknown, Chicago police said.

Officials said one woman was taken into custody, and charges are expected.
