CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The 5-year-old boy who was shot and critically wounded on Sunday afternoon in the Rogers Park neighborhood has died.

Devin McGregor was with his parents on Paulina near Howard when someone fired shots from a passing car. The boy was in the back seat of his mother’s car and was hit in the head.

Activist Andrew Holmes has known the boy’s grandfather for 20 years.

“It’s tough man when you look at it, especially that mother, she’s probably been looking, waking up in the morning, and the little fella probably had been crawling up in the bed with his mother, hugging his mother, and it’s not there anymore,” Holmes said. And, if you look at it, a mother probably asked him, ‘how was your day at school today?’ And, he probably told her, now, she can’t ask him, and he can’t answer, that’s tough.”

Holmes is asking anyone with information to come forward. He said you can’t have children being killed like this and the crimes go unsolved, noting other cases that remain open.
