CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Instead of starting his first full week of kindergarten, Devin McGregor is fighting for his life.
The five-year-old was shot in the head while sitting in a car in Rogers Park Sunday afternoon.
Chicago Police said a black Hyundai pulled up to the vehicle near Paulina and Howard, around 5 p.m.
"Somebody pulled up and started shooting,” said McGregor’s grandfather, Tervalon Sargent. "My daughter tried to pull out. She pulled off and she looked in her rearview mirror and that's when she looked back and she saw my grandson shot, trying to breathe. She took him out of the seat, put him in the seat with her and then drove him to the hospital.”
The boy remains in critical condition at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
"He didn't do nothing to nobody!" his grandfather said. "My grandbaby is in there fighting for his life. He's a fighter. He's fighting for his life."
A 25-year-old man, who was also in the car at the time, was shot in the hand and shoulder. He drove himself to St. Francis hospital where he is in good condition
No one is in custody and the shooting is still under investigation.
