5-year-old boy injured in North Side hit-and-run: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A young boy has been hospitalized after a hit and run in the Irving Park neighborhood.

Chicago police said the 5-year-old boy was crossing the street near Monticello and Cullom, at around 1:30 p.m., when he was hit by a sedan.

After hitting the boy, the 29-year-old driver continued driving northbound. The car later stopped after hitting several parked cars, police said.

The driver ran but was caught by police and taken into custody.

The five-year-old was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in fair condition with cuts to his arms and knees.

Charges are pending.
