OAK PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - If you're in the market for a church, there's one for sale in the western suburbs for about $500,000.
The 98-year-old Parkview Church in Oak Park, at Oak Park Avenue and Jackson is for sale.
“It’s not viewed as brick and mortar like an office building or a warehouse…this is where life is lived,” said Matt Messier with the Foundry Commercial Real Estate Company’s religious education and not-for-profit group.
He's handling the sale and said selling a church is a bit different with faith, emotions, and memories in every corner.
“They view it, not as an address or…brick and mortar…it is viewed where ‘we were married, my father or mother had their funeral or people were baptized,’” Messier noted.
But, times can change and sometimes churches sell to help their members by raising money.
“There are less people that go to church today and also still go to church, but in a different way. They’re not actually driving to the building, but a lot of folks, especially since COVID, are online,” said Messier.
