MARKHAM (WBBM NEWSRADIO)- Six stuffed animals were placed on the front porch of an abandoned home in Markham Tuesday morning where a baby’s body was found five years ago.
The boarded up home near 154th and Hamlin was abandoned in 2017 when the body of 1-year-old Anna Marie Townsend was discovered by firefighters.
Her parents would never be charged and activist Andrew Holmes has not forgotten.
“(The) baby was placed in a plastic bag. This baby was thrown inside of this house, here, and set a fire, the body was burned. The mother and father hasn’t come forward to put in a missing person’s report about this child. And that raises an eyebrow with me, “ Holmes said.
“It’s five years now, and today’s her birthday. I have five teddy bears for her plus an extra one just in case she has an angel flying around with her.”
This case deeply touches Holmes.
“This is a child, this was a little girl. This baby could have been doing a lot in life to change a whole lot of people’s lives. We (will) never know what this baby could have been, who this baby could have been. But, I do know one thing, it’s her mother. You carried this baby nine months, and for you not to come forward, you shouldn’t let what happened to this baby happen to this baby,” Holmes said.
Police have said it is a difficult case and would take time to bring to a conclusion. Holmes said it is time.
