(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago Ald. Raymond Lopez says he is trying once again to get some answers from the U.S. Postal Service about why the service is so spotty.

Lopez (15th) surveyed constituents on Twitter about whether they’re getting their mail.

"Last time I checked, roughly half of respondents have gotten their mail in the last one to two days. We've seen almost a quarter of the responses saying they haven't seen their mail in 3 or 4 days. And a good 10-15 percent haven't seen mail in a week."

Lopez concedes he has no direct oversight over the postal service.

"Our elected officials, our members of Congress, do follow what City Council does. And if I have to push for hearings in the chamber and invite residents from all across Chicago to tell us their post office horror stories, then so be it."

There is an upcoming postal service job fair.  Lopez says they've had those before -- presumably to hire more people -- but the postal service keeps having the same problems.

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago says they will "review the concerns raised by Alderman Lopez."
