(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Elected officials and others are speaking out about reports that a police officer has impregnated a migrant woman staying at his station and that sexual misconduct could involve more cops.

U.S. Reps. Jesus Chuy Garcia and Delia Ramirez say they’re concerned about the accusations emanating from the 10th District.

"When migrants arrive in Chicago, they should find a safe haven from the trauma they have already experienced,” Ramirez said.

Congressman Garcia said the city’s investigation should be "timely, thorough, transparent, and lead to accountability.”

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said its investigators have begun looking into allegations. A separate investigation has begun within the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office said.

Migrants were being removed from the 10th District police station, city officials said.

“The administration is also committed to working with CPD to ensure there are protocols in place to keep migrants at police stations safe while they wait for more adequate shelter, and to hold any officers and/or staff involved accountable upon the determination of the investigation,” a statement said.

John Catanzara, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, blasted the media and others for circulating what he says are rumors.

"There is no validity to the complaint," Catanzara said in a video posted on social media Friday.
