CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chiefs and Eagles took a backseat to the "Wicker Park Woofers" and "Bucktown Bow-Wows" in Chicago on Sunday.
Several puppies met up at the Den Theatre on the 1300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in the Puppy Bowl.
Erin Daly, of the Anti-Cruelty Society, helped organize the showdown.
“This is all about spreading the puppy love,” Daly said. “This is showing people the joy of having a furry companion at home, the fun you can have, the friendship you can have — not only with your companion but with the community around you — and celebrate that love together.”
Brooks Boaz is with the Den Theatre.
“We’re a theater, and we’re not going to sit here and show football and have people out drinking, eating chicken wings,” Boaz said. “We thought, ‘How could we get the community involved and give them something to do.’”
John DeGuide, donning a Walter Payton jersey, had a front row seat. His puppy, Pebbles, was played running back and, along with the other four-legged competitors, piled up yards of adorability.
A portion of all ticket proceeds went to the Anti-Cruelty Society to help rescue, shelter and foster animals.
