INDIANAPOLIS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --In Indiana, a bill that would ban gender affirming care for children has cleared a hurdle.

The measure has gone through its final house committee. It would ban Indiana doctors from providing medical care specifically for children wanting to change their gender, which would include hormone therapy, puberty blockers and even surgery.

The bill passed out of the House Committee despite plenty of pushback from parents and trans rights groups and now heads to the full house for a vote.

“It’s discrimination plain and simple,” Katie Blair, Director of advocacy and public policy for the ACLU of Indiana told the Gary Post Tribune.

She also said the bill impacts First Amendment rights gagging doctors’ ability to discuss and provide a care plan with their patients and their families.
