CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Inflation appears to be hitting the world of beer.

Carly Katz, owner of the liquor store Bottles and Cans in Chicago, told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that the beer industry is dealing with increased supply costs.

“It starts at the very beginning, as people are purchasing their aluminum,” Katz said. “That has gone up significantly in price.”

She said some brewers are trying to make up for lost revenue in 2020, when kegs, cans, and cases of beer sat in warehouses for canceled sporting events and public gatherings.

“As things sat for a year, two years, then you can’t drink it; it ends up going back,” Katz said. “Everyone just has to keep recouping things that go back.”

The current storms in California will impact west coast wine producers, but Katz said customers won't see the impact from the rough weather for another six months.
