(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot says the benefits far outweigh the inconveniences of Lollapalooza, which has been extended for another decade, and a forthcoming NASCAR street race.

A few Chicago aldermen say the City Council should have more say on the deals, both of which will lock up Grant Park.

Lightfoot said those council members have yet to accept her offer to sit down and talk.

She said any disruptions won’t be as great as some fear and benefits could be greater.

Lollapallooza last year had an estimated $300 million impact to the city’s economy, she said an an unrelated event Monday. Restaurants and hotel officials say they are seeing better numbers now than they did before COVID, Lightfoot said.

Lightfoot challenged reports that suggest NASCAR’s Street race would shut down Grant Park for a month. She said the event will put Chicago on a world stage.
