Judge sets bond at $3M for brother of North Chicago boy, 6, found dead in Gary

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Lake County judge has set bond for the brother of Damari Perry at $3 million.

Jeremiah Perry, his mother and a sibling face multiple charges in the boy’s death after putting Damari Perry in a cold shower in his North Chicago home as punishment on Dec. 30, Lake County prosecutors said.

In bond court Sunday, Assistant State’s Attorney Kyle Doyle said the 6-year-old started vomiting and then became unresponsive.

Family members did not call for medical help and instead abandoned the boy’s body in Indiana, Doyle said.

Jeremiah Perry 20, was charged with aggravated battery to a child while Jannie Perry was charged with her son’s murder.

Both additionally face concealment of a homicide and obstruction of justice charges. Neither Jannie Perry or another sibling, who is a minor and also faces charges, were in court.
