CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 13-year-old boy was shot last night in Hyde Park while allegedly attempting to break into a car.

Chicago police said the incident happened Friday, about 8 p.m., on the 1100 of East 52nd Street.

According to police, the 13-year-old was with several others attempting to break into a car parked on the street.

The car’s owner, a 34-year-old woman, is a concealed carry permit holder, Chicago police said.

Authorities said when the woman confronted the group, one of them pulled out a gun and pointed it at the woman.

She drew her own gun, police said, and shot the 13-year-old in the neck

It’s unclear if he was the one who pointed the gun at her.

No gun was recovered at the scene. The others ran off and left the wounded boy behind, police said.

He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, and Chicago police said he was in fair condition.
