If you're planning to visit Brookfield Zoo today, some areas might be closed for cleanup.
The storms that battered the Chicago area also took a toll on the Brookfield Zoo, said zoo CFO David Burns.
“We are actually looking at a lot of downed trees and some pretty substantial limbs coming across the ground,” Burns said, “A lot of debris, otherwise.”
Burns said crews started cleaning up shortly after the storms passed Monday night, but because of the extensive damage, the zoo had to delay opening until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Still, Burns said, they’re very fortunate it wasn’t worse.
“No injuries to report, thankfully, both by animals and by staff,” Burns said.
Burns said the east portion of the zoo, where the big cat and dolphin habitat are located, was the hardest hit. He added that some of those areas might need to stay closed a little longer for cleanup and repairs.
