CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago is using “hyperlocal” methods to get residents vaccinated.

Health officials said door-to-door canvassers will begin hitting more than a dozen community areas that have the lowest vaccination rates.

The trained canvassing teams will knock on every door and discuss vaccine options, talk about the science behind the vaccines and identify residents who may need to have their doses administered at home.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for Chicagoans who have not yet been vaccinated to get the vaccine,” Chicago Health Commissioner Allison Arwady said in a news release.

The first 13 communities to be targeted for block-by-block canvassing are: Auburn Gresham, Austin, Chatham, East Garfield Park, Englewood, Hegewisch, Montclare, Riverdale, Roseland, South Deering, South Shore, West Englewood and West Garfield Park.

Canvassers will be identified by Protect Chicago-branded vests, buttons, and masks. They will not enter homes, officials said.
