CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There’s new information about a fire Tuesday night that badly injured a mother and her three young children on the Northwest Side.
The house where the fire happened in the 2500 block of North Rutherford in the Montclare neighborhood belongs to a Chicago firefighter and his family.
According to the Fire Department, the firefighter was on-duty when the fire was reported at his house. He heard the call on the fire radio dispatch, and, even though his company was not called out to it, he hitched a ride with a battalion chief and once there helped provide medical assistance to his family.
His 34-year old wife and three children, ages two to seven, had to be rescued from the burning house. The woman and two children were taken to Stroger Hospital. Another child was taken to Community First Medical Center and later transferred to Loyola. They are now said to be in very critical condition.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
