(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Brandon Johnson apparently is working behind the scenes to keep the Chicago Bears from moving out of the city.
The new Chicago mayor released a joint statement with Bears CEO Kevin Warren saying that both sides had a meeting on Wednesday.
It says both sides talked about "our shared values and commitment to the city of Chicago, the importance of deep roots, and the need for equitable community investment throughout the city."
They go on to say: "We are both committed to the idea that the city and its major civic institutions must grow and evolve together to meet the needs of the future. We look forward to continuing the dialogue around these shared values."
Johnson has been under pressure to try to keep the Bears at Soldier Field or at another Chicago location, even though the team has been redeveloping the site of the former Arlington Racecourse in Arlington Heights for a potential new stadium. The Bears have also talked with Naperville leaders.
Earlier Wednesday, Johnson talked with reporters about growing up during the era that the Bears won the Super Bowl in 1986.
