(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her New York City counterpart discussed crime prevention and public safety during a meeting with law enforcement officials in Chicago today.
During a City Hall news conference, New York Mayor Eric Adams called urban violence a “crisis.”

"You can't continue to ignore the crisis in our cities. That is Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Detroit, St. Louis," Adams said.
"All of these cities are dealing with the same crisis," he added.
Adams and Lightfoot agreed that city leaders can fight the root causes of crime while holding violent criminals accountable.
Mayor Lightfoot said education and a strong family structure can prevent someone from choosing a life of gangs and drugs when they are older.
"And when they come to that proverbial fork in the road, they know which path they should take because they have had the support of a loving, caring adult in their life and a community that helps them make the right choices at the right time," Lightfoot said.
"This is not touchy-feely and ignoring the crime that we are facing," Adams said. “The way you deal with crime is to prevent crime while you deal with what's taking place right now.”
He also called on more federal government support to fight illegal gun trafficking.
