(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago’s Inspector General has unveiled a new website that she hopes will “shine a light on windowless rooms” in the city’s police misconduct investigations.

It’s all public record. But what this new data dashboard does is to make the misconduct records of police officers more accessible.

Chicago Inspector General Deborah Witzburg said it integrates a newer data system with the city’s older system and makes records more easily available going back to 2007.

“If we had a police disciplinary system in which both members of the public and members of the department had reason to be confident, we would’ve made a lot of progress in the critical work of improving the relationship between the police department and the community,” she said.

“And so, I view this as part of that work: kind of shining a light on windowless rooms in the disciplinary system. I think it’s important work and is very much in line with our big-picture priorities.”

You can search a sworn officer by name or star number.
