(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of the nation's largest free jazz festivals returns in full this weekend.

Fraine Lewis of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events can’t contain his excitement about the Chicago Jazz Festival, which returns for the first time since 2019.

“Just a couple of years ago, we’re shutting things down, and now everyone’s excited. The city’s electric. The Jazz Fest is back. It feels good,” he tells WBBM Newsradio.

A series of lead-up events continues all week with neighborhood concerts. Volunteer Andy Pierce says people can get a preview of what's to come.

More than 100 artists will be featured at 15 different venues throughout the city. The Chicago Jazz Festival runs Friday through Sunday.
