CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — West suburban Cicero residents are continuing to deal with the aftermath of severe flooding in July.

Community members spoke up at a march at Morton Community College.

“There’s a movement in this town,” the participants chanted.

Tears were shed over the devastation on July 2 as people spoke in both Spanish and English. President Joe Biden approved Federal Emergency Management Agency help, but about 30,000 undocumented Cicero residents aren’t eligible for that support.

One Cicero property owner also spoke up at the rally.

“We need emergency housing. We need emergency shelter. We need emergency food, resources [and] clothing. None of that has been done.”

Organizers of the march said severe flooding is a near-yearly event in Cicero, and they want the government to do more to prevent it.

The deadline to apply for federal aid is Oct. 16.
