(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Just ahead of Tuesday’s mayoral election, ministers gathered on the South Side to urge residents to vote.
Rev. Ira Acree, who led the prayer meeting at Rainbow PUSH, said the ministers are praying for everyone to get out to the polls.
He said they were praying for both candidates, but it was clear the clergy present supported mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson. He was there.
The pastors also prayed for peace, regardless of how the election turns out.
Johnson, a former teacher and Cook County commissioner, is in what is believed to be a tight race with Paul Vallas, a former city budget director and onetime head of Chicago Public Schools.
Vallas made a series of appearances Monday that included greeting commuters at the Lake/Clark CTA station, accompanied by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.
