(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The CTA president’s decision not to appear at a City Council committee meeting did not go over well with several Chicago aldermen.
The CTA was represented at a Transportation Committee hearing by several top executives, including Chief Innovation Officer Molly Poppe.
When pressed by committee members why CTA President Dorvall Carter was not present to discuss service problems and security issues, she said Carter was making his top executives available.
“President Carter takes the service very seriously and wants us to make sure that we’re able to answer all of your questions,” Poppe said.
Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) was among the committee members who didn’t see it that way. “It’s not the first time he hasn’t shown up,” he said. “That’s a disrespect to the council and to the ridership.”
Several committee members questioned Carter's commitment to addressing the concerns of CTA riders, if he wasn't willing to appear at the hearing and face aldermen.
