Police in west suburban Riverside say they’ve caught a burglary suspect more than a year after a gas station break-in, thanks to a blood sample investigators collected from evidence.
Early Nov. 28, 2019, burglars broke into a gas station on Longcommon Road and removed part of an automatic teller machine that was bolted to the floor, Riverside police say.

Police recovered blood from a piece of the ATM found elsewhere, Chief Tom Weitzel said. The evidence was sent to the Illinois State Police, which eventually identified a DNA match.
On Wednesday, police arrested 28-year-old Demuiro Williams of Chicago for felony burglary. His bond has been set at $50,000, police said.
“The use of technology combined with effective investigative tools and evidence collection helped to identify Mr. Williams as the suspect in this burglary. The Illinois State Police Crime Lab and the U.S. Justice Department DNA Database were instrumental in bringing closure to this case,” Weitzel said in a news release.
Police are trying to determine if Williams was involved in similar crimes. They’re also looking for additional suspects.
