
CROWN POINT, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Five months after a downstate man caused a crash that killed a construction worker in Northwest Indiana criminal charges have been filed in the case.
According to prosecutors, 69-year-old Clark Johnson was distracted when he crashed his semi into a pick-up and a tanker truck spreading tar in a construction zone on U.S. 41 near Lowell on the morning of Aug. 25
The driver of the tanker, 63-year-old Martin Knip, of LaPorte, was killed. Johnson was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
A search warrant was obtained for his phone, and its alleged that it was streaming pornography just before the crash that killed Knip.
Johnson, 69, of Hoopeston, Illinois, was charged Monday with reckless homicide, two counts of criminal recklessness and three counts of misdemeanor distracted driving.
He was ordered held on a $4,000 cash bond.
