(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man who crashed head-on into a squad car over the weekend bonded out of jail soon after his fourth DUI arrest, Wauconda Police said.
Police say the head-on crash happened after Wauconda Officer Jon Finze and his K-9 partner, Badger, tried to stop a wrong-way driver on Route 12, north of Route 176.
Authorities say the wrong-way driver crashed into the officer’s squad car.
Arrested at the scene was 46-year-old Anthony D. Smith of Wauconda, police said.
Among the felony charges against him: driving under the influence. Police say it was Smith’s fourth DUI and that he was driving on a revoked license.
A spokesperson for Wauconda Police says Smith bonded out “almost immediately.”
Meantime, Officer Finze and Badger and doing well, officials said.
