(WBBM NEWRADIO) -- As lawsuits pile up against Northwestern University in the football hazing scandal, Gov. JB Pritzker says he's glad the school's administrators are starting to make the right moves.

Pritzker has strong ties to the university. NU is home to the Pritzker School of Law, and the governor delivered a notably humorous commencement address on the main campus this year.

In a new statement, Pritzker said he's pleased to see the University take the initial steps towards accountability. There’s more to do, he adds, and he says he stands with the broader Northwestern community concerned about the safety and well-being of every student.

''Our higher education institutions are hubs of learning, community and connection where every individual deserves to feel safe and respected. Hazing in any form is entirely unacceptable,” he said.
