Grease fire breaks out at downtown restaurant: CFD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A popular eatery along Michigan Avenue had to be evacuated Sunday evening after a grease fire began in the kitchen.

According to the CFD, crews responded to the Gage restaurant, located on Michigan near Monroe, shortly before 6 p.m. The fire started in the restaurant’s grease chute. Diners had to be evacuated. There were no injuries, a fire official said.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about a half hour.

The restaurant will remain closed until it is inspected by the department of health.
