CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor JB Pritkzer has announced the sale of the historic Damen Silos.
The silos located at 2900 South Damen along the Chicago River are repeatedly used as backdrops in movies and TV shows.
As part of the governor's plan to reduce operating expenses, he's selling the Silos. Four bids came in with the minimum required bid at $3.25 million.
The winner -- for $6.5 million - was MAT Limited Partnership of Chicago, who plans to demolish the silos and build its new corporate headquarters at the site.
The sale saves Illinois $325,0000 a year in maintenance costs and puts the property back on the tax rolls. The sale is expected to close by the end of the year.
