SESSER, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The state’s first marijuana consumption lounge is about to open in downstate Sesser.
The Luna Lounge, controversial as the first such place in the state, is similar to a bar, but no alcohol is served and customers have to bring their own marijuana in sealed containers from dispensaries.
The lounge is not licensed to sell marijuana products, but will will sell or rent paraphernalia, such as pipes, rolling papers, and bongs.
Owner Holly Roeder said she’s excited to be the trailblazer.
The entry fee is $4.20 and the lounge will provide entertainment, with bands, a fire eater, and a tarot card reader for opening night, and comedians on other nights, plus video, cards and board games.
While the lounge will not provide food or alcohol, there will be a food truck outside on weekends.
The lounge is housed in a former bank and was criticized by some in the small town, who said it would invite an unsavory element. But the town went along, and opening day is Saturday.
Sesser is about 300 miles south of Chicago and has a population of about 1,900.
