(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is working remotely after he came into close contact with a state employee who tested positive for COVID-19.
In a news release, the governor’s office said Pritzker will isolate as a precaution, even though he tested negative for the coronavirus Wednesday morning.
The governor has been fully vaccinated and boosted. He came into contact with the infected employee Tuesday, Pritzker’s office said.
The governor will take meetings remotely through Sunday.
The announcement comes as Illinois and other states are grappling with a surge in COVID infections blamed on the Omicron variant. The Pritzker administration says the majority of coronavirus hospitalizations are people who have not been fully vaccinated.
