CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A vigil was held last night on the site where 14 people were wounded Monday evening in a drive-by shooting on the West side.

They gathered for prayer at Polk and California.

“We come to declare all hands on deck,” Pastor Cornelius Parks said.

Besides West Side pastors like Parks, the people of East Garfield Park also heard from Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

“We must reject, not accept, this violence that is ripping apart too many people in our city. We cannot allow these despicable, cowardly acts to be normalized or accepted in any way,” Lightfoot said.

Terry Young, from the group Black Young Men, brought to the vigil a victim of Monday night’s shooting who had just been released from the hospital.

“My little niece standing to the left of me, she comes to show those cowards who thought they were trying to eliminate her that she’s unafraid. She’s unafraid,” said Young.

“We’ve been going through this all the time and it’s not normal. It’s unnormal. I can’t ever remember the time that somebody would shoot babies and girls. Trust me, whoever you is, you will not be able to hide,” added Young.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown publicly warned the shooters that police will find them to bring them to justice.
