CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Indiana has been added to Chicago’s self-quarantine list, and now the city and Illinois are effectively surrounded by states that are considered COVID hot spots.

“All around us, there is trouble. Indiana has a poorly controlled outbreak,” Chicago Health Commissioner Allison Arwady said Tuesday.

The city over the summer began compiling a list of states with alarming coronavirus metrics. Its emergency travel order is updated each Tuesday, and travelers from states on the list are expected to self-isolate for 14 days if they are staying in Chicago.

Similarly, Chicagoans returning from these states are expected to self-isolate so that the virus is not spread here.

The latest list includes 25 states and Puerto Rico. All states on Illinois’ borders are on the list: Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Wisconsin.
