(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 23-year-old Chicago man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in carjacking a pregnant Downers Grove woman at gunpoint in 2019.

Emanuel Embry in July pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm. The DuPage County judge who handed down his punishment Monday previously sentenced a co-defendant, 22-year-old Daysean Washington-Davis of Chicago, to 40 years in prison.

Authorities say Embry was one of two masked gunmen who approached a pregnant woman as she sat in a vehicle in her Hawkins Street driveway on Dec. 13, 2019 and took her car. Washington-Davis allegedly drove the two men to the crime scene.

Within days, police apprehended all three suspects, including 20-year-old Martavious Robinson of Chicago, who is slated to go on trial this summer. Officials say the three men had been involved in a previous armed carjacking in Warrenville.

The Chicago trio “terrorized DuPage County residents carjacking multiple victims at gunpoint during their short-lived crime spree,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.

“Violent gun crimes such as these will not be tolerated in DuPage County as they claim not just the immediate victims but have a chilling effect on the entire community as well leaving residents on edge, concerned for their personal safety.”
