CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Monday morning was the last time for any kind of normalcy for the next three years for commuters who drive the Kennedy Expressway.
IDOT plans to rehabilitate 7.5 miles of the Kennedy Expressway over the next three years. Starting tonight at 10 p.m., crews will begin closing down two lanes of the expressway from the Edens Junction. But, it’s going to be done little by little over a few days.
IDOT’s Maria Castaneda said they will leave motorists with two regular inbound lanes and the express lanes. But, the express lanes will continue to have two outlets- Armitage and Ohio Street.
“For people who don’t use express lanes that often, I just don’t want someone getting in there and be surprised. It’s going to be the same way it normally runs where you can exit and not exit,” Castaneda said.
IDOT suggests staggering your commute time if you can or taking public transportation. Metra plans to add 12 trains to its weekday schedule on the UP Northwest Line, starting April 3.
