(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Lake County Sheriff’s office is asking for help from schoolchildren in naming the next addition to the K-9 team in the northern suburbs.
One of Lake County’s most famous K-9 unit members is Dax, the 7-year-old German shepherd that has received national recognition for tracking criminals and lost kids.
Now, Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Covelli said Wednesday, they’re getting a fifth dog to add to the K-9 team.
“So we do know it will be a male German shepherd, and we know it will be between the ages of 18 and 24 months,” he said. “We’re down to the final few selectees of the canines, and our handler will be paired with his brand-new partner on Monday, April 26.”
Covelli said the sheriff’s office is asking Lake County students, kindergarten through eighth grade, to submit name suggestions. Deadline is the morning of April 28.
Like other K-9 team members — Dax, Diesel and Duke — this newest addition will have a name that starts with “D.” Go here to submit an idea.
