CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago City Council Committee has approved a multi-million dollar settlement to the family of a woman who was killed when her car was hit by a Chicago Police squad car.

Guadalupe Francisco Martinez was killed in June of 2020 when her car was hit at Irving Park and Ashland by a Chicago Police Squad car that was in the middle of a high speed pursuit.

The death of a 37- year- old mother of six led to changes in the police department's vehicle pursuit policy.

Her estate initially named the officer involved in the pursuit in a wrongful death lawsuit. The ChicagoTribune reported that the officer has since been dropped as a defendant and still works for the department.

The suspect the officer was chasing was later arrested and is still in custody awaiting trial. The full council will vote on the settlement later in the week.
