(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx met with Mayor Lori Lightfoot Thursday night following their high-profile disagreement over the prosecutor’s decision not to file charges in a fatal West Side shootout.

The meeting capped several days of heated back-and-forth between Lightfoot and Foxx.

Lightfoot had challenged the state’s attorney’s office after it declined to press charges against anyone involved in a West Side shooting last weekend that left one person dead. Chicago police said there was some video evidence of the incident but conceded several suspects refused to talk after they were arrested.

Foxx said she has a responsibility to file charges in cases her office can successfully prosecute. She accused the mayor of grandstanding and scapegoating others.

The meeting Thursday reportedly included the police superintendent and his chief of detectives.

Both Lightfoot and Foxx released separate statements Friday pledging they’ll work together to reduce violence.
