CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A carjacking downtown Wednesday night ended close to where it started, with one man dead and two women injured.

Police said a woman was in her Infinity FX35 on Lake Street, just west of Michigan Avenue at 5:40 p.m. A man and woman got into her SUV, attempting to steal it. There was a struggle as the car was moving. It slammed into an 'L' support column at Lake and Wabash, and all three were trapped in the car.

The fire department extracted them, and all three were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The man was pronounced dead there. The conditions of the two women were unclear.

But, police said the woman who was part of the carjacking effort was taken into custody and charges were pending.
