CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One person was killed and another was wounded after gunfire broke out inside of a Wicker Park hookah lounge during a New Year’s Eve celebration.
Chicago police said a man attempted to enter the Lyon’s Den holding a gun around 1:30 a.m. — hours before the lounge on Division Street near Hoyne Avenue was slated to close.
Authorities said the gunman got into a shootout with two men in the lounge before running off and getting into a car. A 38-year-old man died at the hospital after he was shot in the leg, stomach and shoulder.
A 26-year-old man was in good condition with a leg wound.
Police said it’s not yet clear what led to the shooting.
